Unless you’ve been hibernating all winter long, and to be honest who can blame you, you’ll know that this week saw the 72nd annual Golden Globe awards take place in Hollywood and as usual, the stars were out in force playing their major fashion games on the red carpet. For the Golden Globes, the vibe is meant to be casual, not quite jeans and t-shirt but you’re meant to save your major fashion moment for the Oscars. Still three were plenty of highlights and we’ve listed below some of our favourites. Enjoy!
Golden Globes Fashion
British Invasion
This years golden globes was all about the British. Countless nominations for actors, directors, films and television shows came from this side of the pond and the team was out in force on the red carpet to represent.
Melissa McCarthy’s cut and sew dress
Melissa McCarthy has received a lot of stick for this dress with critics saying that she looks like a mormon school teacher. I get where, they’re coming from but I actually think the look is flattering on her newly slimmed down figure and I love that it’s made from pieces that she already had. It’s rare to see celebrities recycle their wardrobe and Melissa has done just that by breathing new life into old clothes.
Quevenzhané Wallis
Quvenzhané Wallis is 11 and she’s wearing a custom Giorgio Armani dress. Enough said.
This near disaster
Jessica Chastain and Lana Del Ray went for alarmingly similar looks on the red carpet with their somewhat grecian inspired dresses. I’d ask who wore it better but it’s pointless because it’s obviously Jess. She wins for her hair alone.
Conchita Wurst
As Time magazine put it, 2014 was the ‘Transgender Tipping Point’ and here Conchita Wurst proves that gender is no boundary for looking flawless. Here she is serving up beard, body and beauty and blurring gender stereostypes all at the same time.
Robert Downey Jr’s Glasses
As a seasoned pro on the red carpet, Robert Downey Jr. has his own style and that usually involves a pair of glasses with tinted lenses. Here he’s rocking some frames that are very similar to these Ray-Ban Icons and you can even put your own tint in too at SmartBuyGlasses.
George Clooney and Amal
Perhaps the best looking couple to ever exist (sorry Brangelina) and by far provided Amy Poehler and Tina Fey the best line of the night.
“Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, an adviser to Kofi Annan on Syria and was appointed to a three-person commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza strip. So tonight her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award.”
…And Everything about Meryl Streep
And of course the eternal goddess that is Meryl Streep, rocking a pair of oval shaped glasses. Love you forever Meryl.
