What does February mean in the fashion calendar?

For avid fashion addicts across the UK, the biggest event has finally arrived! Your favourite bloggers, most followed fashion influencers and photographers have flocked to the popular high streets of London to spot and capture what we will be wearing next season. The street style in London is always top tier and this 2018 edition was no different.  Good news for us! Fashion Week is not only about super luxury brands and their exorbitant prices anymore. In fact, we can now get those dazzling catwalk outfits for ourselves too and brands like Topshop and Burberry have now introduced the “buy now” feature.

Want to ace next season’s style? Here are the best snaps from the London Fashion Week.

Red Outfits

Might be because of the Chinese New Year, but red outfits were all the rage at the February Fashion Week. I’ve always avoided wearing red thinking it was “too much” and definitely not an everyday choice of colour, however, I have long admired this monochrome look from afar. Why? Its power, its brightness and its declarative self-awareness. After appearing for the first time at last season’s Milan Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week as well as Men’s earlier this month — it’s time for us to fully embrace this colour and give it a try! Wear Red and Feel Confident. Formal, casual or sporty – we suggest you match your red outfit with a pair of black frames.

AS TOPSHOP SAYS…

Topshop, aka The Fashion Bible, organized a series of talks and workshops to introduce and learn all about the latest trends. We hope you didn’t miss the amazing event with style maven Laura Jackson last Friday but, in case you did, here’s a recap

Trench Coats

Will Brits ever get tired of trench coats? The answer is clearly not and, honestly, neither will we. A nice trench is always worth investing in, as we have a deep-rooted faith in the multi-purpose appeal of trench coats. The classic fitted look leaves room for a more masculine tailoring, wide shoulders and loose fitting. It is extremely versatile and if you go for a neutral nuance, as the one we picked for you below, it can be worn with anything. Jeans and heels, a fitted top, maxi skirts and trainers too. But the pièce de résistance of the entire London Fashion Week was undoubtedly the British signature Burberry trench. For Christopher Bailey’s final Burberry show, he created a version in this season’s favourite fabric: plastic. More on Burberry below.

Jumpers

Practical, cozy and extremely comfortable. You would never expect a jumper to be the winning item of a Fashion Week but during these enchanted days, fashionistas have covered themselves from the chill with oversized jumpers and transformed this chunky piece of clothing into a super cool trend. Big roll necks, oversized sleeves and bright colours. Embroidered jumpers are also a big trend and if you thought they were only sporty items you will have to think twice! Choose your favourite quote, word or picture and match it with skirt and heels! Don’t hold back and dare to try extravagant colours and designs.

Tiny Sunglasses

If you’re looking for new accessories to upgrade your spring wardrobe take note from the London streets.

Micro spectacles were particularly popular in the 90’s and they are making a comeback as we could see during this fashion week and not only. Celebrities like Rihanna and Bella Hadid have already been spotted wearing small glasses and this trend is now officially in. Why? Well, they are cool – extremely cool. It all started on the runaway from Miu Miu to Balenciaga and this year Prada and Ray-Ban are rocking the trend.

Fun fact: we actually spotted tiny sunglasses in an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians – when Kanye told Kim “You cannot wear big glasses any more. It’s all about tiny little glasses” – Well, guess he was right!

We suggest this cool pair from Le Specs and a more classic Ray-Ban.

It’s all about Burberry

We know for a fact that the Burberry trench is a staple but this 2018 London Fashion Week has all been about the world-famous British brand. The CEO and creative director Christopher Bailey resigned after 17 years – though leaving a final message of unity, he created a rainbow version of the brand’s hits over the years. From trenches, windbreakers and jackets to scarves, jumpers and caps. The collection is called “Time” as it celebrates the past, present and future of Burberry.

We at SmartBuyGlasses also want to celebrate a genius like Bailey and his sense of fashion – and what better way to celebrate than getting a pair of Burberry frames?
