Undeniably the most exciting time to visit Italian glamour capital Milan is during Fashion Week. If you’re lucky enough to find yourself in the middle of the action, be sure to check out our list of the top 5 things not to miss. Enjoy.

New Designers

The renowned fashion capital is the headquarters of some of the biggest Italian brands but it is increasingly becoming home to a host of designers, who are reshaping fashion in Italy. Stella Jean is an Italian-Haitian designer who combines dazzling colours with digital prints. Following rave reviews from Vogue Italia Chief Editor, Francesca Sozzani, her popularity has skyrocketed. Fausto Puglisi is another Italian designer who is relatively unheard of outside the fashion world but collaborations with Madonna and Dolce & Gabbana® are a testament to his status as a rising star.

Eccentric Fashion

Three words – Anna dello Russo. Yep, she’s the one who wore fruit on her head.  A proclaimed “fashion maniac”, the former Italian fashion editor is well documented for her outlandish style. In second and third place are Viviana Volpicella and Giovanna Battaglia who are also known for their kooky sartorial choices. Be sure to keep an eye out for them heading to the shows around the city.

Aperitivo

What better way to round up a hectic day than to sit outside and enjoy the scenic sights of Milan with a refreshing cocktail? It would be a sin to miss out on a Milanese “aperitivo” and bag yourself some of the best made cocktails in Italy, accompanied by a buffet of tasty appetizers.

Red Valentino Party

One of the free events at Milan Fashion Week is the Red Valentino party. For those of you not satisfied with a day of fashion shows, people watching and posing, you can extend the fun into the night here.  The event is located at Corso Como, one of the swankiest shopping districts in Milan.

Shopping in Milan

No real fashionista could head to Milan Fashion Week and not check out the shops. A stone’s throw from where the biggest Italian fashion power houses will be presenting their latest collections is Via Montenapoleone. Any fashion brand worth knowing is here and it’s also the location of pretty much every brands flagship store. It’s the perfect pit stop in between shows (even if you’re only window shopping).
